Technology is really taking us places; it now even wants to shop for us. Google recently launched a fashion site –Boutiques.com – that aspires to use algorithms to assist internet users in dressing up pretty awesome.
On my first venture to Boutiques.com, I was able to create my own boutique. What one does is sort through different celebrity fashion photos and clicking on the one that’s more your style. By choosing between two styles or skipping if both don’t suit your style the site can then create your style and preferences. Once it has generated your style genre, it will ask you for to choose the silhouettes, colors and patterns you like and hate. In this way the computer systems, which were taught by the engineer to understand patterns, pairing and genre definitions, are able to recommend you the clothes that you would want or most likely to prefer. It is a very personalized shopping experience because they will suggest, let you find and discover fashion goods based on your own style and preferences. According to their site, they are hoping that in time they would be able to provide a richer and more interactive shopping experience for its shoppers. In this case they will be adding more online retailers to provide some products that would suit the taste of all internet users.
There are different celebrities, stylists, designers and fashion bloggers with their favorites and inspired by their style, as well as different clothing from retailers, trends, and style genre. There are choices, which one can save in their created boutique or share through twitter or email or they can either “love or hate” the clothing. If it’s a little expensive for you, then you can also see other visually similar items, or you can also find other products to complete the look if you like it or find more details and ways to wear the item. So, for those on a meager budget, if you like one clothing one can easily look for a similar looking skirt or top or shoes that’s a little less expensive.
The Boutiques idea of making shopping online easier for shoppers is not the first that’s been done. There are a number of websites that compare specifications and features of techie gadgets like computers, laptops and smartphones. But unlike these gadgets where reviews on features and specs are that important, in fashion it’s more on what you visually like, what looks and feels good for the shopper and what suits their personal style.
The computer vision and machine learning technology being used to visually analyze the taste of the user and matches it to products. Unfortunately, it’s all about everyday clothing and party clothing. It would be nice if they can include workwear or corporate clothing, something a little bit more formal and professional looking than flamboyant ones I saw. Or maybe it’s because I was looking at the styles of the Olsen twins. So for your daily workwear, one still has to go to and follow their dress code and go to their online store which caters to the working population.
Online stores, like UniformPoint.com makes shopping very easy and convenient for loyal customers, too. Aside from the fact that they are priced so low, customers can also avail the free shipping options for orders $35 and more. They also have a terrific and extremely professional and uber-affordable customization services to make the workwear and corporate clothing more memorable and uniquely yours.
